Where to stay in Marrakesh in December

Here is why I would choose to stay at El Fenn Hotel (http://el-fenn.com) and not at the epic El Mamounia (http://www.mamounia.com/en/marrakech.htm) or its new equivalent Royal Mansour (http://www.royalmansour.com/#/en/home) when I go to Marrakesh, Morocco.

Outside of the fact that boutique hotels, let’s admit it once for all are more trendy than even palaces; when a hotel is small you feel more pampered and it is less impersonal than Scheherazad Palaces !

El Fenn hotel is a good exemple of that, tucked under a little arch near one of the entrance of Marrakesh’s medina, this old riyadh has been restored amazingly well , keeping the original feel with a modern twist.El Fenn means The Arts in Arabic, and the name suits this riyad perfectly well.

The rooftop terrace is one of its highlight: the view of the eternal Atlas mountain is to die for – if added to that, you can have a traditional moroccan breakfast under a 27 degrees sun in Decembre , for me it’s jackpot !

Now , la Mamounia will always remain la Mamounia – it has re-opened 3 years ago after undergoing a massive refurbishment and you can still know why it was one of Churchill’s favorite place in the world.

The service is impeccable – and the public quite ” select” if you want to venture on a paparazzi mode trip.

The hotel is like a talking museum in itself so surely irreplaceable in the hotels’ scene. The pool area is very laid back and beautifully surrounded by palm trees. The new Spa is stunning .

The Royal Mansour has been built majestuously without contest – perhaps it would be the perfect place for when one retires .
